Mysterious Alaska Goo

Blobs of unidentified goo have been reported off the coast of Wainwright Alaska in the Chukchi Sea. Local hunters starting seeing the odd goo sometime last week and describe it as dark, thick, and “gooey”.

Samples have been taken and sent for testing as the 12 to 15 mile ‘slick’ of the stuff has traveled with the current and last Friday approached the shores of Barrow, Alaska.

Terry Hasenauer, Petty Officer 1st Class Coast Guard, has seen the stuff up close. “It’s certainly biological. It’s definitely not an oil product of any kind. It has no characteristics of an oil, or a hazardous substance, for that matter. It’s definitely, by the smell and the makeup of it, it’s some sort of naturally occurring organic or otherwise marine organism”, said Hasenauer .

Coast Guard’s samples are being tested in a lab in Anchorage. Results may be back sometime next week
