City officials in Raleigh, North Carolina claim a colony of tubifex worms are responsible for the web-plosion of articles on the the internet concerning the mysterious sewer creature captured on video and then distributed to the world on YouTube.com.

The video was captured in a sewer pipe under Cameron Village on April 27.

Tubifex worms are found in sewage and pond sediment and are actually sold both live and dried as fish food in pet stores.

Ed Buchan, environmental coordinator at the Raleigh Public Utilities Department, explains the pulsating glob of worms were reacting to the bright light and heat from the camera when he spoke to www.news14.com.

So everyone relax. We aren’t being invaded by blob aliens that are living in the sewers… yet.
