Rev. Jose Gabriel Funes, an astronomer and director of the Vatican Observatory, made news in July 2008 with his blog entry (yes, Jesuit priests blog) The extraterrestrial is my brother.

Now Funes is back in the news as he presented the results Tuesday of a five-day conference that gathered thirty astronomers, physicists, biologists and other experts. The group of scientists included non-Catholics, from the U.S., France, Britain, Switzerland, Italy and Chile who attend the conference to discuss extraterrestrial life.

The Roman Catholic Church’s position seems to be preparing for the discovery of alien life and acceptance of that life as part of creation.
