I came across this sabre-toothed Duck-billed creature while hiking in the remote high desert in Northern New Mexico. It was about 4 ft. in length and had strange bumps protruding from it’s back as well as a very long snout and one large canine tooth. It was dry as a bone and stiff as a board.

The image does not appear to be available any more.

Farther down on the post, evidence of possible photo tampering is suggested.

Very well could be a cousin of the Chupacabra, Montauk Monster, that creepy dead thing in Panama or the recent Kitchenuhmaykoosib Kreature.

For some odd reason, the fine people of Texas keep rolling out these weird dead hairless critters and calling them Chupacabra, most recently some taxidermist from Blanco TX. Then they complain about the media attention, sooner or later they start selling T-Shirts and a write book. You may remember the Cuero Chupacabra. As I previously stated, the Puerto Rican alien Chupacabra is way more interesting than these poor pitiful beasties, as I suspect the Texas one is a more classic nut and bolts, flesh and blood cryptozoological, less ultraterrestrial type creature. Hell, the Texas version looks like a coyote with a skin disease.

Would the real chupacabra please stand up

The real Chupacabra first came to the media’s attention in March 1995 in Puerto Rico. Sightings described a three to four foot tall creature, much like a traditional grey alien, but more reptilian, with fangs, forked tongue, a dog or panther-like nose and sharp spines or quills running down its back. Sighting quickly spread to Dominican Republic, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Brazil, United States, and Mexico as the media seemed to love the Chupacabra.

How the weird hairless dog creature of Texas also became known as a Chupacabra is unknown. While both creatures have been known to be sighted before and after the appearance of dead live stock, often found with the blood drained, the appearance is very different.

Hanks of www.gralienreport.com has a great blog entry concerning the phenomenon he calls “Screaming Kangaroos: Large Anomalous Marsupials in the USA?“.

It seems weird kangaroo like creatures have been reported in the US going back as far as 1934, with a sighting by several residents of Tennessee.

Then in October of 1974, multiple sightings of a kangaroo have been documented in around Chicago, Illinois and a famous sighting in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin that resulted in a popular photo (which I can’t seem to find online).

These sightings said to be documented in Jerome Clark’s Unexplained!: 347 Strange Sightings, Incredible Occurrences, and Puzzling Physical Phenomena, which I just ordered from Amazon.

Sightings continued into the 80′s with reports from California and people today continue to report seeing kangaroo or kangaroos like creatures where there should be any.

So what are phantom kangaroos?

Another cryptid that is being mistaken for kangaroo?

A werewolf or chupacabra (the kangaroos were thought have killed pets and other animals in the 1934 Tennessee incident, very chupacabra-like)?

Or something else totally different? Of course the doubters will tell us they we normal kangaroos, escaped from zoo or the circus.

This isn’t your Puerto Rican alien chupacabra, this is the Texas variety. We discussed the difference a bit in a September 08 post. Honestly, the Puerto Rican alien version is way more interesting as I suspect the Texas one is a more classic cryptozoological, less ultraterrestrial type creature.

With Phylis B. Canion’s (the Chupacabra Lady) upcoming book on The Cuero Chupacabra due to be released this year, we’ll look at the Cuero Chupacabra a bit. If Chupacabra Headquarters wants to send us an advanced copy, we’ll give it a read and post a review.

From www.cuerochupacabra.com

With three dead animals in two days, allegedly struck by motor vehicle, the mass media frenzy has sparked some very interesting stories in Cuero, Texas. The infamous Chupacabra strikes again, but this time lands in one lady’s freezer. The DNA of this animal has been completed and in the paternal ancestry the Y chromosome matches the Mexican Wolf, while the maternal ancestry indicates the source animal is the coyote.

The ‘meat’ of the story is the DNA evidence. DNA reports almost match the critter to the local common coyote, but www.cuerochupacabra.com are quick to point out that chimpanzee genes and human genes match 98%, implying that the dead creature could be a yet to be discovered and identified species.

With multiple bodies recovered and one in the freezer undergoing DNA testing from University of California-Davis, the Cuero Chupacabra raises plenty of questions.

The whole Chupacabra phenomenon is an odd one.
The current ‘Texas’ descriptions and accounts don’t match the original reports from Puerto Rico.
I believe there are two separate phenomenon going on here and they are connected by the word and a common factor witnessed after sighting of both ‘creatures’.

The Texas Chupacabra is more a mutant dog thing, still exhibiting some of the creepy practices of its distant Puerto Rican cousin but physically very different. The Puerto Rican Chupacabra is more like a Grey Alien than a canine. Both are tied to animal mutilation and disappearances, with the specifics of having the blood drained from the victim often being the same in both cases.

Texas loves their Chupacabra. Multiple dead bodies have been found, photographed, sampled, and tested.

And now… Witnessed and video taped by a Sheriff.

When that thing turns its head sideways…

But why two different phenomenon being lumped together?
