Call From Indrid Cold

In the The Mothman Prophecies, John Keel documented that several people received mysterious phone calls that only had beeping or loud screeching noises when they answered them during the 1966 Mothman Flap. Other calls were interrupted by static or disconnected entirely. The problems were not limited to phones, police radios and televisions were also affected in the area of Point Pleasant, West Virginia in 1966.

Other weird calls to Keel during this time were credit to Indrid Cold, sometime thought to be a Grinning Man, sometimes an alien, often telepathic, always creepy.

I got a odd call and message today, left on my (571) 24WEIRD voice mail.

Wem Town Hall Ghost Girl Mystery Solved?

On November 19, 1995, the Wem Town Hall in Shropshire was destroyed by a fire. Amateur photographer Tony O’Rahilly took several photos and after developing his film, O’Rahilly produced a picture of a ghostly young girl wearing old fashioned clothes standing amid the flames.

The photograph – nicknamed the ‘Wem Ghost’ got world wide attention and some claimed it was an apparition of 14-year-old Jane Churm who accidentally set fire to the town hall in 1677.

O’Rahilly, who died in 2005, always denied doctoring the photograph, but now Brian Lear claims he has seen the image before, in a post card from 1922 that was printed in a local paper.

The head dress, the front of the shirt and belt match up very well. Oddly, face is more defined on the Wem Ghost photo.

The Association for the Scientific Study of Anomalous Phenomena and Dr. Vernon Harrison, of the Royal Photographic Society, previously analyzed the print and negative. Both parties were convinced it wasn’t a fake, a film glitch and was in no way altered or tampered with.

I’m not convinced this is a hoax.

2009 Parapsychological Association Convention

The Parapsychological Association, Inc will hold it annual convention at Kane Hall University of Washington Campus
in Seattle, Washington. The conference will begin Thursday, August 6th and end Sunday, August 9th.

The convention is an annual gathering of scientists and scholars engaged in the study of psychic phenomenon, such as telepathy, clairvoyance, psychokinesis, psychic healing, and precognition. The PA conventions is open to the public with registration available online and at the start of the event.

Donald Hoffman, Professor of Cognitive Sciences at the University of California, Irvine and author of the book Visual Intelligence: How We Create What We See, will be the banquet speaker on Saturday night. His talk entitled “Consciousness and the interface theory of perception” will present a non-materialist solution to the mind-body problem. Banquet tickets are limited, but still available.

Whales In Space requested press access to the event to cover the convention, but we were told they “don’t offer press passes to bloggers”.
