Being called a mystery object, astronomers have found something that looks like a comet, but lives in the asteroid belt about 250 million miles from Earth.

The strange object was discovered on January 6 by the Lincoln Near-Earth Asteroid Research (LINEAR) sky survey, which is funded by the United States Air Force and NASA and located in New Mexico.

Generally, comets follow elliptical orbits that get close in to the sun and grow long gaseous and dusty tails as ices sublimate off their solid cores. Asteroids are mostly in more circular orbits and with a high density of them living between the orbits of the planets Mars and Jupiter in the asteroid belt.

Several other comet/asteroid hybrids have been reported over the years, but are still not completely understood by astronomers.

This previously unknown object may be on a high speed collision course with another object in the belt. Astronomers can see debris from previous impacts, but have never seen a collision as it happens.

Is this a new object to the belt? With Aphophis – Asteroid 2004 MN4 recently in the news, the mystery object that passed through Saturn’s F ring and the increased fireball activity in the sky, one might wonder whats coming our way.

In 2029, Aphophis – Asteroid 2004 MN4 will pass within 30 thousand kilometers of Earth. At over 1200 feet in diameter, Aphophis would cause some serious damage if it collides with the earth. The good news is chances of a collision in 2029 are quite slim. Bad news is that after it pass us in 2029, it will come back this direction in 2036 and some orbital models have the space rock striking Earth this time.

A top Russian scientist says they have it under control.

The head of Federal Space Agency, Anatoly Perminov, addressed Russia’s plans concerning Aphophis in an interview with the Voice of Russia radio show. He says the Russians are on the way to create a spaceship that will divert the threatening asteroid from its orbit.

Hawaii – December 2nd: Steve Yoder was on his way from Wailua from Waimea on Kauaʻi when a “big ol’ honking fireball” lit up the eastern sky right before 9 p.m. He described the object as a “flaming green” and joked “I hadn’t started drinking yet,” in a The Garden Island article published December 11th.

Residents as far as east as Anahola also reported seeing similar “orange and green” objects beginning around dusk on December 2nd, “some of them hovering over car ports in Anahola,” said a witness who wished to remain anonymous.

University of Hawaii Professor of Astronomy Dr. Gareth Wynn-Williams credits the unusual activity to the Geminids meteor shower, which occurred from December 7th to the 17th, but peaked the 13 and the 14.

North Dakota – December 11th: From western Minnesota to northern Wisconsin, people reported seeing bright blue or green flashes of light in the sky between 1:15 am and 1:45 am on Friday December 11th, 2009.

The National Weather Service in Grand Forks logged a call at 1:25 a.m. from someone 15 miles west of Bemidji, Minn., who reported that the sky looked green. Other witnesses described as a huge fireball was seen in the sky near the town of Fifield, Wisconsin.

A Sheriff’s Department deputy from Becker County Minnesota was dispatched to investigate two reports of lights in the sky from Highway 10 near Frazee and Highway 34 east of Detroit Lakes, about 1:36 a.m. Friday said Sheriff Tim Gordon. Nothing was found, but the area was checked to make sure it wasn’t a downed plane.

This continues an amazing pace of reported fireball sightings from around the world, starting in Mid-Novemeber 2009. November 19th had a massive green fireball streak across the Utah, California and Nevada skies, followed by November 21st sighting of a fireball in South Africa, and again November 26th and 27th over Canada.

Various answers been given to the source of fireballs of this type. In Ramtha, Last Walz of the Tyrants, they are said to “neutralize the erosion effect of the stratum” and again in Prophets of Our Own Destiny Ramtha addresses the fireballs:

The green fireballs are coming back into your sphere; they are being sent as well as those that will appear orange. Keep your eyes aware in daytime, in particular in the afternoon at the time called two. There will be a great amount of activity all through to summer. If you look up, you may see them. You may see some spectacular ones, and they are not all bad

Another explanation is in the 1959 UFO classic, Other Tongues Other Flesh, author George Hunt Williams explains the three ‘classes’ of fireballs.

One of the most startling phenomena connected with the coming of the Saucers, is the appearance from time to time of the “fireballs”. In The Saucers Speak! space friends said: “You would be astonished if you knew what these ‘fireballs’ really were. They are not the same as your remote-controlled devices.” Another time they said: “It was a ball-globe being on its duty.” And again: “Crystals are valuable to us. With a crystal miracles can be performed.”

Since December of 1948 countless “fireballs” have bathed the hills of the American Southwest with their strange, blue-green glare. They have also been seen in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Puerto Rico, Arizona, California, Washington, Denmark, and other places throughout the world. The chief Air Intelligence officer for the Albuquerque district saw one. Col. Joseph D. Caldara, USAF, attached to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, saw one in Virginia. Hundreds of pilots, weather observers and atomic scientists have observed these “fireballs”.

It appears that the “fireballs” fall into three general classes:

1. Those which leave copper particles in the atmosphere after silently exploding and leave no residue on the ground such as meteors do.

2. Those that were called “foo fighters” and known by other names which draw near our aircraft and other earthly objects to obtain information to be relayed directly to the space-lab. These objects are mainly crystalline in structure and are really sentient beings. They possess the powers of sense or sense-perception and have actual experience of sensation and feeling as they “televise” their gathered data back to the hovering laboratory. This idea is difficult for the people of Earth to accept, and indeed, even to understand. The idea of a crystal that thinks!

3. There is a third class of “fireballs” that do not explode. In fact, after they are constructed in great scientific laboratories their power is immutable! There are very strange records in history of the activities of this type of “fireball”. Their power is similar to the power of the robot “Gort” in “The Day The Earth Stood Still” a science-fiction movie. However, the space people do not have robots in the form of “mechanical-men”.

Could the recent string of fireballs be related to the mystery object that passed through Saturn’s F ring in June, leaving a trail of debris, less than a month after an object crashed into Jupiter?

Whales In Space even declared June 12th, 2009 Fireball Friday after a 14 year old boy in Essen in Germany was recently struck by a fireball/meteorite as it traveled at 30,000 mph.

Starting with the daylight sigthting of the Texas Fireball on Feb 15th, 2009 has been the year of the fireball.

In the past month, we have narrowly avoided being hit by a previously unknown 28 foot meteor on Nov 6th, had reports of large fireballs lighting up the sky over the Western US and South Africa and now two more fireballs on Nov 26th and then again on the 27th are being reported over Edmonton Canada.

At 7:15 AM on Thursday November 26th, a fireball was spotted traveling low along the horizon from the northeast to the east, the Telus World of Science says. The next morning, a second was seen to the west at about 5:50 a.m.

Could this increase in activity be related to the a mystery object that passed through Saturn’s F ring in June, leaving a trail of debris, less than a month after an object crashed into Jupiter?

There definitely seems to be an increased trend in fireball activity, dating back to the daylight sighting of the Texas Fireball on February 15th and all the other fireball related stories this year.

Residents of Johannesburg, Gauteng, and Pretoria reported a fireball around 11pm on Saturday November 21st, heading towards the north of Pretoria.

“We saw this big green ball of fire. it kind of came out of the sky, out of the blue,” one local witness said, “There was sudden flash. Like an orange stripe in the sky, followed by a very bright explosion where the sky lit up as if it was daytime.”

Since the February 15th Texas Fireball sighting, which was followed by fireball sightings on the East Coast, in California and around the world, there seems to be a serious increase in the number of these UFO fireballs.

Seen in Utah, California and Nevada, a massive green fireball crossed the skies of the Western US around 12:05 am on Thursday November 19th, 2009.

NASA Solar System Ambassador Patrick Wiggins claims the fireball was caused by a Bolide meteor.

The fireball was so intense, one witness explained “it was as light as a summer day outside”.

The news story makes this sound like a rare occurrence, yet the Texas fireball from last February 15th and the host of other fireball and meteor sighting this year tell a different story.

Are meteor sighting, especially ones of this size increasing?

You may also remember that in June of this year it came out that the U.S. military was no longer sharing data from their most advanced satellites concerning asteroids and meteoroids coming towards the earth with private sector scientists.

Were they expecting an increase and wished to control the information and how it was released to the public?

Add into that NASA recent PR push to dismiss any concerns about December 2012 and you have a cover up wrapped in a conspiracy.

www.chinadaily.com.cn reports the Chinese scientists at the Purple Mountain Observatory in Nanjing, who were confirming the were studying UFO video captured during the July 22nd 2009 solar eclipse, was an unidentified object, but ‘not a UFO’.

The bright object to the side of the sun can be seen in more than 40 minutes of video that the Chinese scientists stated they will be studying for up to the next year.

Ji Haisheng, director of Nanjing-based Purple Mountain Observatory, pronounces each word carefully to clarify that he hasn’t made any claim of seeing a UFO during the July 22 solar eclipse, which could be seen across China.

The Daily Mail, however, reported on Sept 7 that China had “confirmed (that) 40 minutes of footage of the object was captured during this summer’s solar eclipse and that research has already started on a year-long investigation to find out what it is”.

The British newspaper quoted Ji as having said: “During the July 22 total solar eclipse observation, China had discovered near the sun an unidentified object, it’s physical nature remains to be further studied.”

This leads to an interesting point concerning the definition of the term ‘UFO’. The Chinese scientists obviously do not want to associate the connotations that comes with the term ‘UFO’, but are comfortable calling it an an unidentified object.

To be clear, anytime we use the term ‘UFO’ on Whales In Space, we mean exactly that. If we know what they are, we will identify them. The term ‘UFO’ does not imply flying saucers, aliens, or little green men. The object that streaked across the Texan skies in February was a UFO. The lights seen across the United States on July 4th 2009 were UFOs. We are not saying they are extraterrestrial, they are unidentified flying objects.

Have some money burning a hole in your pocket?

Maybe you need a pair of Ed Grimsley’s UFO Watching Night Vison Goggles.

Ed Grimsley is a UFO researcher who is convinced there is a UFO war going on over our heads. His DVD, UFO WARS, contains new footage from Albuquerque, New Mexico of a squadron captured with nightvision and includes Jose Escamilla’s Interstellar film as an added special film. He sells his special UFO Watching Night Vison Goggles to help us all see the UFO war that we are currently missing.

My mission is to show people what is happening in earth space all the time. I want people to start looking through night vision binoculars and see the battles tasking place between aircraft including saucer shaped objects.

To give people a chance for viewing these things I am planning to have skywatch gatherings. With more and more people seeing them, perhaps someone will take notice and report this to the media.

Whoever it is we are battling, it is very serious and a threat to our National Security.
Ed Grimsley

Grimsley got a couple minutes on CNN and was asked about the Texas Fireball from February 2009. He trys to turn it into an infomercial, but seems to be cut a bit short.

Its been one year since WhalesInSpace.com launched in its current format and what a year in the world of weirdness it has been.

Highlights would have to be the Tom Biscardi’s RickMat Bigfoot Press Conference and when it was revealed to be a hoax. Whales In Space was able to get a reporter to the conference and cover the event as it happened. I still think there is more to this story that was never discussed, except in the private conversations between cryptozoologists and and those who pay very close attention to these things. Also the Blossom Goodchild October 14th UFO prediction stands out as one of the most interesting stories of Whales In Space’s first year.

The February 15th Texas Fireball caught on video and the amazing number of other Fireball sightings and mysterious sonic booms before and after wards also caught the worlds attention.

Also in the first year, we saw the rise of sasquatchploitation, multiple black balloon cluster UFO sightins, two Montauk Monsters and the possible return of batsquatch or at least some clarification to the story.

And still going one, with reports still coming in, the Orange Ball of Light (ORBL) sightings over the UK. If these are just chinese lanterns, I would suggest buying some stock in a chinese lantern company, because sales are up.

A big thanks to everyone who read a post, who made a comment, who sent in photos and stories and tips. A big thanks to everyone who linked to our site.

In the first year we had 200 posts exploring the weirdness of aliens, UFOs, exopolitics, cryptozoology, other paranormal fortean phenomenon, and ultraterrestrial activities. I expect the next year to bring weirder yet stories.

We have been following the increase in reports of fireballs streaking across the night and daytime skies since the now famous Texas Fireball was captured on video in mid February.

We declare today, June 12th 2009, as Fireball Friday as Fox News pushes two fireball stories to the front of their newsfeeds.

It seems a boy in Essen in Germany was recently struck by a fireball/meteorite as it traveled at 30,000 mph. Fox News posted the story from an article on SkyNews.

The boy, 14 year old Gerrit Blank, was on his way home from school when he saw a massive fireball coming right at him. The object struck his hand, leaving a 3 inch scar and then hit the ground, leaving a one foot crater.

“At first I just saw a large ball of light and then I suddenly felt a pain in my hand. Then, a split second after that, there was an enormous bang like a crash of thunder. The noise that came after the flash of light was so loud that my ears were ringing for hours afterwards. When it hit me it knocked me flying and then was still going fast enough to bury itself in the road.”

He seems pretty chipper for just being struck my a piece of something from outerspace.

Tests have been done on the object and it is in fact a meteorite.

“It’s a real meteorite, therefore it is very valuable to collectors and scientists,” stated Ansgar Korte, director of Germany’s Walter Hohmann Observatory, “”Most meteorites don’t actually make it to ground level because they evaporate in the atmosphere. Of those that do get through, about six out of every seven of them land in water.”

Calculated odds of being struck by a meteorite, one in 100 million.

And only yesterday, we found out our dear military is covering up information about recent fireball activity. Until recently, the U.S. military policy was to share information gleamed from satellites about fireballs. That has drastically changed.

“It’s baffling to us why this would suddenly change,” said one scientist familiar with the work. “It’s unfortunate because there was this great synergy … a very good cooperative arrangement. Systems were put into dual-use mode where a lot of science was getting done that couldn’t be done any other way. It’s a regrettable change in policy.”

The timing does seem odd, with the recent rash of fireball sighting and mysterious sonic booms that have been reported in the last 4 months.

Is there anything to the increase in fireballs? Something the military would rather some pesky sky staring scientists not find out about?

And what are these fireballs? Meteorites like what hit Gerrit Blank or something else?

In the 1959 UFO classic, Other Tongues Other Flesh, author George Hunt Williams explains the three ‘classes’ of fireballs.

So welcome to Fireball Friday.
