Life On Other Planets In The News

Planets with water = life?

Several recent stories in the news seem to building up the acceptance of extraterrestrials life existing.

A website based in India has reported researchers with the Chandrayaan-1 mission may have found “signs of life in some form or the other on the Moon.” . The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) Satellite Centre says that Chandrayaan-1, which impacted the within the Shackleton Crater on the Moon’s south pole on Nov. 14, 2008, picked up signatures of organic matter on parts of the Moon’s surface. The scientist added the source of the organics could be comets or meteorites which have deposited the matter on the Moon’s surface but the recent discovery by another impact probe — the LCROSS mission — of ice in the polar regions of the Moon also “lend credence to the possibility of organic matter there.”

A NASA article Martian Methane Reveals the Red Planet is not a Dead Planet claims first definitive detection of methane in the atmosphere of Mars indicates the planet is still alive, in either a biologic or geologic sense, according to a team of NASA and university scientists. A biological sense? Methane is of interest to astrobiologists because organisms release much of Earth’s methane as they digest nutrients.

On Earth, microorganisms thrive 2 to 3 kilometers (about 1.2 to 1.9 miles) beneath the Witwatersrand basin of South Africa, where natural radioactivity splits water molecules into molecular hydrogen (H2) and oxygen. The organisms use the hydrogen for energy. It might be possible for similar organisms to survive for billions of years below the permafrost layer on Mars, where water is liquid, radiation supplies energy, and carbon dioxide provides carbon.
Michael Mumma of NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md

Then the dropping of this little gem in a story about Saturn’s Moon Titan “Experts believe the presence of liquid on a planet or moon improves the chances that some kind of life could develop there.” as NASA reveals first-ever photo of liquid on another world.

And even FoxNews.com gets into the action with Nearby Super-Earth May Be a Waterworld. It seems planet GJ 1214b is about 40 light-years away and is about three times the size of Earth and about 6.5 times as massive. It is the second smallest planet discovered outside of our solar system to date, trailing behind only CoRoT-7b, which is 1.7 times Earth’s size and about five times as massive. What is really important is scientists think the thick atmosphere of GJ 1214b creates a high pressure environment that keeps water on the surface in a liquid state.

Back to Mars real quick, the story New Study of Meteorite Provides More Evidence for Ancient Life on Mars where the meteorite, called Allan Hills 84001 (ALH84001), which was first analyzed in 1996 has been looked at again using advanced microscopy techniques not available in 1996 to investigate the carbonate disks and, more importantly, the magnetite nanocrystals within the disks. These embedded magnetites are the apparent fossils that exhibit features similar to contemporary magnetotactic bacteria. Comparing these to Earth magnetotactic bacteria that are quite common in aqueous environments, they are more similar than not. What does that mean? How about bacteria on Mars over 15 million years ago.

While aliens have yet to land on the White House lawn, this is a start.

I Know What I Saw

Director and host James Fox assembles the most credible UFO witnesses from around the world to testify on the subject and share their experiences and observations. Air Force generals, astronauts, military and commercial pilots, government and FAA officials from seven countries gather at the National Press Club in Washington D.C. to tell stories that, as former Arizona governor Fife Symington states, “will challenge your reality.” These accounts reveal a behind-the-scenes U.S. operation whose policy, in the eyes of some observers, seems to involve confiscation of substantiating evidence from close encounters–to the extent that even Presidents have failed to get straight answers.

And don’t forget your “I Know What I Saw and it wasn’t swamp gas” t-shirt and more info about the project at www.iknowwhatisawthemovie.com.

The documentary premiered on the History Channel in early October and is available for pre-order on DVD, scheduled to ship on March 30th, 2010 for only $19.95.

Navy Listened For Martians – August 1924

November 11th, 2009 by RK | leave a comment

On August 23rd, 1924 Mars passed as close to the Earth as it has in over 60,000 years, with the exception of the fairly recent August 27, 2003 encounter. It won’t be that near again until 2287.

It seems the Chief of Naval Operations Edward W. Eberle of the US Navy thought life on Mars may attempt to communicate with the Earth during that event and sent a telegraph out instructing all Naval stations to monitor the airwaves for any unusual transmissions from August 21st to the 24th.

“NAVY DESIRES COOPERATE ASTRONOMERS WHO BELIEVE POSSIBLE THAT MARS MAY ATTEMPT COMMUNICATION BY RADIO WAVES WITH THIS PLANET WHILE THEY ARE NEAR TOGETHER THIS END ALL SHORE RADIO STATIONS WILL ESPECIALLY NOTE AND REPORT ANY ELECTRICAL PHENOMENON UNUSUAL CHARACTER AND WILL COVER AS WIDE BAND FREQUENCIES AS POSSIBLE FROM 2400 AUGUST TWENTY FIRST TO 2400 AUGUST TWENTY FOURTH WITHOUT INTERFERRING WITH TRAFFIC”

4080312434_411e7559ba_o

4080488602_b36a7fef42_oProfessor David Todd, former head of the Amherst College astronomy department, was the driving force behind getting the Army and Navy to report any radio messages they may have detected, but failed to silence the country’s private radio broadcasters.

An ad was run in Popular Radio Magazine concerning the possibility that Mars would try to contact us during that time period.

Strange signals were reported from several sources. Radio operators in Vancouver reported that they were receiving a series of “four groups of dashes in groups of four”. In London a listener reported “harsh notes” of an unknown origin. WOR engineers in Newark, New Jersey reported similar sounds at nearly the same wavelength. A Bostonian reported a strange ringing, ending with an abrupt “zzip”.

These were all explained away in some form and the general consensus was that nothing but static could be heard over the radio waves for those days in August. If Mars tried to contact us, we missed it.

This was all 14 years before Orson Welles’ famous “War of the Worlds” broadcast.

British Police Sergeant Sees Mysterious Beings Near Crop Cirlce

October 23rd, 2009 by RK | leave a comment

The www.telegraph.co.uk reports that an unnamed police sergeant saw three tall blond men in a field near Avebury, Wiltshire where a recent crop cirlce had been found. The three men were wearing white coveralls and when the officer approached them, he heard “the sound of static electricity” and the three men ran away at an incredible speed.

Crop circle researcher Andrew Russell has spoke to the press on behalf of the officer says the encounter took place on July 6th of 2009, only two days after the largest unreported UFO flap in recent history, the July 4th 2009 Mass UFO Sighting that was first documented on www.whalesinspace.com.

Who or what these three mysterious men were is not clear. Possibly aliens or Men In Black types who were caught inspecting the area by the police officer.

Alien Abduction Insurance

September 1st, 2009 by RK | leave a comment

In January 2009, we posted an article about buying UFO insurance for your home, car, and property, but what about alien abduction insurance? Esther November wrote a great article that is posted on www.associatedcontent.com exploring the idea of getting insurance protecting you against alien abduction, possibly with the payout doubling if you are impregnated with an alien baby.

The UFO Abduction Insurance Company offers a policy with a single lifetime premium $19.95. Payout is $10,000,000 and requires the signature of an authorized onboard alien on a claim form to collect.

British Insurance managing director Simon Burgess claims he has sold over 30,000 policies, mostly to Californians, who paid $100 each to insure themselves in case they were abducted by aliens. He has also sold Loch Ness Monster Attack insurance.

North Port Devil Update

August 26th, 2009 by RK | leave a comment

More developments, twists, turns, and characters in the Mike Rowley North Port Devil story.

Last Friday, a new North Port Devil witness video was posted on the North Port Devil YouTube Channel. Two women discuss what they have seen at Mike Rowley’s home in North Port Florida. They describe seeing a silver/grey/cream fairly standard grey alien that they describe as acting like a small child and playing hide and seek.

The video seems sincere, as the woman named Susan describes the sighting, she also describes her physical response to the experience.

That is right, another woman named Susan. You may remember Susan K from a previous witness video. And the name of the woman who conducted that interview… also Susan.

So now we have three Susans and two Mikes (Mike Rowley and Mike K who was with Susan K in the previous video).

John Keel’s name game seems to be in play in North Port.

The Susan who conducted the interview with Susan K and Mike K, is Susan Kimball (another Susan K). I contacted her through her YouTube Channel and asked if I could ask some question about her involvement in the North Port Devil story. One thing I noticed was the religious themed material on her YouTube Channel. I asked Susan how Mike Rowley’s current experiences fit into those beliefs.

Her explanation was well explained and thought out. Packed with Biblical references and bringing in Jesus, God, Nephilim, UFOs, and aliens to detail her beliefs. Part of Susan’s answer back to me is below:

The alien phenomena when viewed through the lens of the Bible can be explained. You see, in the book of Genesis, it speaks of fallen angels who left heaven and came to earth in order to have sexual relations with flesh woman. It was an attempt to carry out a planned genetic manipulation of mankind. Genesis 6:4 “There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God (fallen angels) came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown“.

This word giant here in Hebrew is Nephilim which means fallen ones. The Nephilim being the progeny or offspring of the fallen angels and flesh women. The result was a hybrid race, half human, half angel . This half breed race was not renown for there good deeds or righteousness but rather for there wickedness. In order to preserve the human blood line through which Jesus Christ would come, God destroyed them all in the flood. The exception was Noah and his family because their blood line had not been tainted in that they had not intermingled with the fallen angels.

The spirits of the Nephilim which where destroyed in the flood did not return to God but rather became disembodied, demonic spirits that assist Satan, the god of this world, in deceiving mankind by interacting with mankind in different ways and forms. I believe that the alien phenomenon is 100% demonic in nature and that some of the reported sightings of “aliens” are the disembodied spirits of the Nephilim masquerading as aliens.

Susan found Mike Rowley through fellow YouTube Channel. She contacted Rowley and asked to do the interviews. She has never seen or experienced a UFO or alien and plans to be at the Rowley’s home on September 4th to watch for an appearance of the North Port Devil.

And what of the North Port Devil critics who were crying hoax last week? There seems to be some oddness surounding www.nbc-2.com’s ‘paranormal investigator’ Eric Patterson. At first, I was unable to find any trace of Eric Patterson as a ‘paranormal investigator’ except a Craigslist ad created after the NBC-2 story. The email address used by Patterson on Craigslist can be traced to another post online of an Owner/Operator of Bird Wing Productions out of South West Florida.

I emailed the reporter from the NBC-2 article, Kevin Ozebek at Kevin.Ozebek@nbc-2.com, and asked about Patterson. That was Monday, I have yet to get a response.

An email to me from Mike Rowley paints a different picture of Eric Patterson. Mike explains he has ‘a lot of funny e-mails’ from Eric Patterson and that Patterson has had some experiences in the woods near Rowley’s home, one ending with Rowley’s neighbor seeing Patterson running from the area.

Fermi Paradox Suggests There Are Less Than Ten Alien Civilizations In Our Galaxy

August 3rd, 2009 by RK | leave a comment

Last week, Carlos Cotta and Álvaro Morales from the University of Malaga in Spain, re-opned the discussion of using advanced math to determine the number of advanced extraterrestrial civilizations in our galaxy.

The Fermi paradox is a concept based on the ideas of Enrico Fermi from the 1950s. Fermi wondered why, if advanced extraterrestrial civilizations exist in the Milky Way galaxy, had their probes or space ships never been positively identified.

The apparent size and age of the universe suggests that many technologically advanced extraterrestrial civilizations ought to exist.

However, this hypothesis seems inconsistent with the lack of observational evidence to support it.

Cotta and Morales published their A Computational Analysis of Galactic Exploration with Space Probes: Implications for the Fermi Paradox, expanding on the concept that advanced extraterrestrial civilizations would send out probes that would reach farther than their standard expansion.

The problem with all these arguments is the definitions being used.

Who says the probes of an advanced extraterrestrial civilizations haven’t been observed?
Would we even know what we are looking for?
We expect an ‘alien’ life form to orbit and probe a planet like we would. We are using our own set of scientific paradigms to predict the actions of an advanced alien civilization.

Do we think of our selves as an advanced civilization? Our mainstream media and science doesn’t even have us traveling to the next closest planet to us in our own solar system yet. Let us not pretend to know how an advanced extraterrestrial civilization would explore a galaxy.

Maybe the Earth and our solar system isn’t even worth checking out.
Why would an advanced extraterrestrial civilization be interested in us? What do we have to offer?

Or maybe advanced extraterrestrial civilizations are here, but not exploring our world in the physical sense we imagine. This leans towards John Keel’s position (and mine for that matter) that UFOs and other anomalies are more of a psychic and dimensional phenomena.

I abandoned the extraterrestrial hypothesis in 1967 when my own field investigations disclosed an astonishing overlap between psychic phenomena and UFOs… The objects and apparitions do not necessarily originate on another planet and may not even exist as permanent constructions of matter. It is more likely that we see what we want to see and interpret such visions according to our contemporary beliefs. – John Keel

We presume to know the mind of an advanced extraterrestrial civilization. We expect them to be like us. We want them to behave they we would behave. This is a huge fault to this argument.

A Galactic Gathering: A Conference on Extraterrestrial Civilizations

The Institute for the Study of Galactic Civilizations is sponsoring ‘A Galactic Gathering: A Conference on Extraterrestrial Civilizations’ September 25th – 27th in Denver, Colorado.

Denver has been a center of UFO and paranormal research and studies recently, with Jeff Peckman and Stan Romanek’s alien video and their Extraterrestrial Affairs Commission. The Extraterrestrial Affairs Commission was shelved in January 2009, but Romanek, Peckman, and Alejandro Rojas were all involved in the Colorado UFO Briefing 2009 on May 9th 2009.

We can’t mention with Denver and the paranormal with dropping the names of Bryan & Baxter of the Rocky Mountain Paranormal Research society. Their skeptical, closed minded and pessimistic approach to the paranormal puts an interesting wrinkle in any story they brush up against.

A Galactic Gathering: A Conference on Extraterrestrial Civilizations will feature eight speakers, including three former college professors, that will present evidence of interaction with six different races of extraterrestrials who have influenced almost every aspect of our life, including science, wars, and our religions. The conference will offer proof about the existence of extraterrestrial civilizations and evidence that they have been interacting with humanity for eons.

Speakers include Arthur David Horn, Ph.D., author of Humanity’s Extraterrestrial Origins, Leo Sprinkle, Ph.D., author of Soul Samples, Norma Milanovich, D.Ed., author of We The Arcturians, Wendelle Stevens, author of Message from the Pleiades, Stan Romanek, author of Messages, Sheldon Nidle, co-author of You Are Becoming a Galactic Human, Ron Regehr, a former aerospace engineer, and Associate Director of Research for MUFON, and Rainbow Eagle, revered Wisdom Keeper, Peace Shield Teacher, and author of Native American Spirituality: A Walk in the Woods.

The conference is at the Doubletree Hotel Denver Tech 7801 East Orchard Rd Greenwood Village, Colorado and tickets are available online.
Early Registration (Before July 31st) $125.00
August 1st – September 1st – $150.00
September 2nd – September 24th – $175.00
At the Door – $200.00

The Institute for the Study of Galactic Civilization’s founding president was Maury Albertson, Ph.D., former director of research at Colorado State University and co-founder of the Peace Corps. Maury passed away in January 2009, and the conference is dedicated to his memory

Jeff Peckman And Stan Romanek Are Back With Colorado UFO Briefing 2009

May 7th, 2009 by RK | leave a comment

Jeff Peckman And Stan Romanek, who made it all the way to CNN’s Larry King show with their claim of having video footage of an alien, before being undermined and mocked by Bryan & Baxter of the Rocky Mountain Paranormal Research society, have called the Colorado UFO Briefing 2009 on May 9th.

The purpose of this briefing is to provide the public with credible and compelling information regarding the UFO phenomena. From research to sightings, Colorado is a hot bed for information and experiences. Colorado averages over 100 reported UFO sightings per year. These are concerned citizens who see things in the sky that they can’t explain. We are also fortunate enough to have many great researchers and organizations interested in this subject, many of whom sponsor this event for a unified effort to inform our fellow Coloradans.

We will provide information on the study of UFOs, and information regarding the many groups around the state that meet regularly to research and/or share information. We will also have vendor tables with the speaker’s books or other items they wish to provide or sell. You will be sure to find great information, wonderful discussion, and extremely important exploration into subjects of utmost importance.

Speakers include Stan Romanek, Paola Harris, Jeff Peckman, Chuck Zukowski, and MC/Organizer Alejandro Rojas.

The event will be held 11 AM to 6:30 PM at St. Cajetan’s, Auraria Campus, Downtown Denver

Interview With An Alien

March 19th, 2009 by RK | leave a comment

We got an email promoting the book ‘Interview With An Alien‘ by author Erasmus Crane.

Amazon does this great thing called Statistically Improbable Phrases, or “SIPs”. These are the most distinctive phrases in the text of book that has been submitted to them. Interview with an Alien has the following SIPs;
evil coalition, ancient writings, orgonne energy, molecular disrupter, actual time travel, false technology, biological robots, great matrix, plane builder, psychic essence, proper accord.

Below is the email.

A new book is now available on the subject of UFOs and the Paranormal! This book is not the standard collection of tired theories, guesses and speculations! Every serious UFO/Paranormal enthusiast should read this book The title is “Interview With An Alien” and is NOT connected with the popular fake video “Alien Interview”! Did you know that Extraterrestrials say that most UFO sightings are planned and staged by other interests and not the military? The ETs DO believe in God and they explain why most people (the average person) go to Hell, which is in a parallel dimension! They go into great detail of what animals really are and the so-called “mystery” of reincarnation! They speak of the true nature of gravity which even Einstein got wrong! This book is a “mini-tome” of over 600 pages and weighs nearly 2 pounds! Buy it today and receive a discount from Amazon.com!

This thought-provoking book was written under a mystic impulse by a man named “Erasmus” who had no intention of embarking on the arduous task of writing a book, especially one of this length and magnitude!
